Ich lerne Deutsch!
Having just arrived a few short months ago, Anna’s main priority is “enculturation”. This process of adapting to her new surroundings includes learning language, social values & behaviors, establishing relationships, and other day-to-day necessities. Join us in prayer for Anna as she continues to adapt and prepare for work here in Germany, and enjoy her most recent update:
I just finished the third week of language school! I go back and forth between feeling like I’ve already learned a lot and being overwhelmed with how much more there is to learn. I have one week left in this first module and then I move on to the next level.
My class is made up of 20 people from 11 different countries. I’m starting to build relationships with some of my classmates, mostly with the other English speakers because our German is still so basic, but I’ve already had some interesting conversations about why I’m here in Germany. One of the girls is from Israel and I excitedly told her that I’m going on a trip to Israel in January. She looked at me incredulously and said, “Why?” I explained that it’s a study tour to visit the places we read about in the Bible and learn more about the people who lived there. She just could not understand why I would use vacation time and spend money on a “vacation” to Israel to study the Bible. Hopefully I’ll have more opportunities to talk with her about why I’m so excited for this trip.
